This week’s Polyphonic Three was a veritable smelting pot of local Australian talent, featuring 3 bands from around this fine country.
First up we have a group by the name of Jinja Safari with a track called Peter Pan (mp3). Their music is an Afro-inspired pop sounding mix of lucid tones with thoughtful lyrics and the track really does conger up a Never Never Land feeling. The video compliments this with great landscape shots and a Lost Boy’s vibe. We, at the humble Walk of Shame, recommend keeping a close eye on these guys as big things are in their future since winning a spot on the Amphitheatre stage at this year’s Splendour in the Grass which was truly well received. You can catch them live on the 21st of August at Sydney’s Metro Theatre in support of Art Vs Science, or check their Myspace for extra listings. Go…
Next up we have a track by Sydney troubadours, Boy and Bear. The four piece have a sound that is a hybrid cacophony of The Shins, Cloud Control and Fleeting Foxes with some mighty tambourine action added on top for some thigh slappingly good moments. We gave Mexican Mavis a spin, it’s mellow tones luring you in, so early on a Saturday morning that you barely notice the slide into a toe tapping anthem that will linger like an ear worm in your soul. The new single was launched at Spectrum last October and Richard Kingsmill (Triple J Music Maestro) has since given it 5 stars… which is non too shabby. Head over to the Unearthed site later to pick up your free mp3 download.
Completing the trilogy this week on the Polyphonic Three we have Charlie Mayfair a merry mixture of musicians with more members than you could shake a boomerang at. Mmmm. Hailing from Brisbane the band’s music has a light and happy feel with occasional serious overtone and great harmonies that have you singing along even when you don’t know the words yet (Or at least Timmy seemed to think he could). The track ‘Run’ carries some great thought provoking lyrics and beautiful melodies, we played ‘If I fell Down’ just to mix it up a bit. Keep an eye on these banana benders as they’re set to take Australia by storm in the not too distant future. Their debut EP Watch My Hands has been released and is available online through Mucho-Bravado‘s store we highly recommend laying your grubby paws on a copy this instant of forever miss out. See you next Saturday on Bondi FM for the Polyphonic Three on the mighty Walk of Shame
